August 29, 2011 Wednesday Lets kill the rumor mill. Shawn is NOT in jail. We will not and cannot give specifics. We have a long way to go before things are back on track for Shawn but are making some progress. Today I will use the term "captors" more loosely. As I said he is in "The System" and because everyone is afraid of being sued, and with good reason, "The System" has lots of rules they have made up to protect themselves. We believe it is not necessarily deliberately obstructionist in nature. We are making progress.

August 29, 2011 Monday Shawns Sister and I drove to Long Beach today to visit Shawn. It was a 1 hour drive thru heavy traffic. Visitors hours are 4-5...7-8. We arrived at 4 and were stopped at the door and told that we could not see him...that he didnt want to have visitors. OVER 90 days searching for him and now we are not allowed to even see him for a minute. If he does not want to see us we want to hear it from him .. not his "captors". He is being kept in virtual isolation from all the people that care for him the most. If he was in prison he and his family would have more rights than he does now. ALSO We notified LAPD missing persons Monday that Shawn had been found on Saturday .. they had no idea .. Someone needs to work on that. They put out a Media Release that we were being reunited today with Shawn .. its in the papers ... thats not happening yet.

August 28, 2011 90 days missing and 60 since LBPD made Shawn a missing person again.

Shawn has been located. He was picked up by the Monterey Park Police on Saturday morning in the East Los Angeles area and is in a safe place for now. We have a positive identification. We still have a long way to go as he is now "in the system" and many doors of access are closed to us. As strange as it may seem after searching for him for 3 months, now that he is found we are not allowed to be told how he is, where he is, or even see him. If we cannot get him out of "the system" they may move him, put him back on the street and they don't even have to tell us when or where. He would be a missing person again.

The "system" is seriously broken and needs to be fixed to prevent this from happening to the people that need the help the most and those that want to be there for them.

HOW WE CAN ALL HELP

Help us to end the Stigma. Countless people with mental illness are pushed into the shadows and become invisible to society because of the stigma. They are ignored and ostricized by society and left vulnerable to abuse by the police, and medical society on many levels. They very often become victims because of this.

We will soon have a website up that will be of help to those that have loved ones that are in crisis, lost or missing. This includes the families as well, as they are also lost in what to do to help or where to go for information when illness strikes or a loved one goes missing.

We will be working to have legislation passed to protect the mentally ill and homeless. The abuse has to stop. We have received countless emails of abuse by authorities to people that can least protect themselves. Transported to other cities and dropped off. Threatened or beaten. Arrested or jailed for no reason or falsely. The public needs to know these stories and laws need to be passed and enforced to protect us all.

Support the family of Kelly Thomas and ktmf.org. Ron Thomas has been asked by the Chief of Police for Tustin to talk with the department (Officers) on how to talk with/handle the mentally ill and the homeless. This will undoubtedly save lives and is much needed.

WE ARE SEEKING LEGAL REPRESENTATION
We are seeking legal council to take action against those who put Shawn in these circumstances and seek justice on behalf of Shawn and his family. In light of the Kelly Thomas and Matrice Richardson cases we hope this may stop future police abuse against those with a disability like mental illness. Abuse of any kind to the disabled is a crime.

August 15, 2011 Missing Person 81 days and 50 days since LBPD arrest
We received an Email tip of a possible sighting at the Chevron gas station (in front of the Holiday Inn) at Willow and Lakewood Blvd today at 1pm in Long Beach. 2610 North Lakewood Boulevard

August 6, 2011 - Missing Person 72 days and 41 days since LBPD arrest
We received an Email tip of a possible sighting several weeks ago at the Sam's Club off of Carson St in the Long Beach Town Center. A young man talking loudly to himself...who would fit the profile....walking up Carson St and then onto the bike path of the San Gabriel River.

August 11, 2011 - Missing Person 77 days and 46 days since LBPD arrest

Shawn was not been seen by anyone, anywhere since the Long Beach Police arrested him.

He was arrested by Long Beach Police at the Aquarium on June 26th for no apparent reason. He had no ID, no money, and when last seen his health was in serious decline. He will not seek out or ask for help and needs to be taken to a hospital emergency room. We had been desperately searching the area and needed the help of the Media and public to get his picture and story out.

LBPD claimed they left him in the front lobby of the police station and "he left." We have only their sayso that he left on his own. Was he a victim of their "homeless policy" or wandering the streets to become the next victim for "resisting arrest" like Kelly Thomas.

Shawn had not been seen by anyone, anywhere since the Long Beach Police arrested him.

As of August 28, 2011 at 9am Shawn has been located. He is getting help but "in the system" and will still be considered a missing person by his family and friends until they will allow us access to help him. Our journey together is far from over.
